In a review for, Matthew Hayes gave the game a 4/5 rating calling it "The true Mario Golf successor." The Switch exclusive has been a consistently strong seller since its release, and has been called one of the consoles best games. The title was nominated for Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards 2017, and won Best Original Sports Game that same year at the National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers awards. It's a bit unsurprising to see a sequel to Golf Story given the game's strong reception.
